Making for the perfect pair, Converse and Awake NY collaborated on their first collection, dropping apparel and their take on the beloved One Star Pro. Off the heels of his latest collection drop featuring 90’s, back-to-school inspired pieces, Angelo Baque teaming up with Converse is the perfect match.

Tapping into what he knows best, Baque reimagines looks from the ‘90s, specifically for the One Star Pro which was reissued by Converse at that time. This new capsule is a celebration of NYC culture downtown in the ‘90s and the newfound love for Converse’s latest reintroduction of the 1974 All Star which was reintroduced as the One Star. Skate, art, and alternative communities alike loved the One Star for its 70s roots and the way it was salvaged and remade to fit their culture.

It’s no mystery that a fashion designer working to create pieces reflective of nostalgia teamed up with the One Star creators who were made popular by big artists like Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins. “If you wore a pair of One Stars back then, you didn’t subscribe to the social norms,” Baque says. This new collaboration is an ode to this nostalgia.

The Converse x Awake NY One Star Pro is featured in black, blue, and white with the Awake NY logo embroidered on the side surrounded by suede, co-branded sock liners, and license plates. With the communities these shoes were originally made for in mind, the One Star Pro silhouette was made for skateboarders with impact cushioning and CONS traction rubber outsole offering the perfect durable and flexible shoe for skaters.

Apparel may not be the star of the show but it certainly gets its own shoutout with a cotton jersey rugby shirt, cotton jersey tee, and a two-toned fleece hoodie with a blue contrast hood. All of which feature the Awake logo embroidered in detail across the garment.

The Converse x Awake NY collection will be available at Awake on October 6, followed by Converse.com on October 12.
